Driver's license identity verification: fast, secure, trusted
Authenticating the identity of photographers who take photos for Dutch driver's licenses is now quicker and safer, following collaboration between AET Europe, PhoCS and RDW — the Netherlands Vehicle Authority.
The challenge
100% trustworthy license images, zero identity fraud
RDW needs to know who has taken each picture, that the photographer is certified and authorized, and that every step in the transmission of data — from camera click to delivery — is tracked, tamper-free and provably secure. Three parties are involved: Pass Photo Organisation, PhoCS and RDW itself.
The solution
Scan a QR code, prove who you are
Built on digital certificate technology, ConsentID verifies the photographer's identity with advanced encryption and authentication protocols — all complexity sits on the back end. Photographers simply download a smartphone app and scan a QR code to authenticate themselves and their work. No plug-ins, logins, usernames or passwords to remember.
Compliance is baked in: RDW can confidently publicize that it has a fully eIDAS- and ISO-compliant solution.
The results
Safer licenses, faster service
Sailing through compliance
The yearly external security audit was passed two months before the deadline — with a blemish-free report.
Loved by photographers
Around 4,500 photographers use the app to serve more customers, faster and more accurately.
Integrated in four months
ConsentID was integrated into the PhoCS systems in just four months, with barely any support needed at launch.
Faster for citizens
Taking and delivering the picture takes less than five minutes. License renewal turnaround dropped from one week to as fast as two days.
As the EU transitions to mobile driver's licenses held in digital wallets, secure identity verification remains high on RDW's agenda — and ConsentID is ready for that future.
The technology behind it
ConsentID, our all-in solution for digital trust
The ConsentID platform enhances security by integrating multi-factor authentication and certificate management for user verification, data encryption and secure communication — a comprehensive system that protects sensitive information and lowers the risk of breaches.
